Computer Writing CenterThe CWC is the computer-networked writing environment here at Florida State University for over thirty First Year Composition (FYC) sections each semester. A learning space within cyberspace where students can practice various forms of electronic communication, the CWC promotes exploration and critical evalution of digital discourse. The two classrooms in Williams 217 & 310--eighteen student workstations, one instructor station and a media station with projector--contain AMD Athlon PC computers with LAN-based connection to the Internet through FSU. CWC students typically use a web-based course software package known as Blackboard to analyze and share writing via instructor-guided discussion forums and chatrooms. Some teachers may have students create html-based webzine writing projects, or engage in Internet research using search engines and FSU library-sponsored electronic bibliographic databases. The many choices and options for implementing computer-assisted writing instruction guarantee each FYC section taught in the CWC as a unique, rich learning experience, one which further develops student digital and traditional literacies. If you surf the links below, you'll find that much of this site is devoted to providing support for instructors new to the CWC. Hopefully, many of your questions associated with integrating the use of technology into the classroom will be answered. For more information, contact the Director of the Computer Writing Center Dr. Ormond Loomis or the CWC program assistant Sami Levy
