Online Tutoring through the RWC FSU's Online Writing Lab gives registered students access to tutors in the Reading/Writing Center who can help with a variety of composing tasks. Tutors assist with all phases of writing -- from finding a manageable topic, to revising a drafts, developing or refining the organization of a paper, even to developing effective proofreading and editing techniques.

As with all writing sessions provided by the RWC, the tutors' goal is to help students develop techniques and skills in composing that not only meet their needs for a current writing assignment or project but that serve the students when they work on their future writing projects as well. To let tutors know how to assist most effectively, it's important that you ask specific questions that you want a tutor to address.

Online tutoring sessions can be more time consuming than face-to-face sessions, and tutors may not be able to respond to an entire essay. They will respond to as much of the essay as possible within a half-hour. Once you receive the comments, you may write back with requests for clarification and follow-up questions.

The online tutoring service is only availabe to active FSU students. Be sure to use or include your FSU email address when you submit a request for help. Tutors will only send comments on papers to fsu.edu email addresses.

Tutors will respond within 48 hours (Papers submitted Friday will receive response by Tuesday).

There are some things you should know about online tutoring before you decide to send a paper to an online tutor:

What We Can Do

• Help you with any aspect of writing-from coming up with a topic to revising to organizing your ideas to developing proofreading skills and more.
  
  
• Help you develop as a writer.
  
  
• Help you develop skills and techniques that you can apply to future writing projects.
  
  
• Help you by answering specific questions.

What We Can't Do

• Proofread or edit your paper -- the RWC is not an editing service.
  
  
• Respond to your paper immediately -- it can take up to 48 hours to for a tutor to respond to your paper. Items sent in on Friday afternoons may not be returned with a response before Tuesday afternoon.
  
  
• Give you advice if all you do is send us the paper -- to provide meaningful and constructive feedback tutors need some information about the assignment and some specific questions from you.
  
  
• Write your paper for you.
