Many universities have online sites that provide help for readers and writers. Rather than recreate or paraphrase the valuable work they've done, the RWC encourages people at FSU to consider see the resources that our counterparts elsewhere offer.*

First-Year Composition Program This site contains a wealth of resources for first-year composition students and teaching assistants. Students might be interested in viewing previous papers written by FSU students in Our Own Words. Graduate teaching assistants will find links to the teacher's guide, writing exercises in The Inkwell, and other things created by previous TA's.

The Writing Process

Paradigm Online Writing Assistant, from Chuck Guilford, a long-time compositionist and former English professor -- This site includes advice on the finding topics, genre conventions, sentence structure, and other issues.

Re:Writing, from Bedford St. Martin's -- Included are guidelines for model documents and avoiding plagiarism as well as much other useful information.

Writer's Guide, from Jack Lynch, Rutgers University -- A view of the writing process geared towards undergraduate writers.

Writer's Web Topic Index, from the University of Richmond -- Examines the different stages of the writing process as well as terms that are often misunderstood.

ELL Writing Tutorials, from MONASH University -- Comprehensive tutorials on writing in English in the different disciplines.

Grammar & Vocabulary

The OWL (Online Writing Lab) at Purdue University -- One of the best resources for writing questions/resources in general, nationwide. 

Common Errors in English, from Paul Brians, Professor of English at Washington State University -- Visit this site and you'll learn something new, guaranteed.

Handouts & Links, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill -- Tons of handouts on grammar, citation, various writing assignments, and writing for different disciplines.

The Elements of Style -- A classic text discussion of style. The online versions presents Wm. Strunk's 1918 edition. More recent editions with contributions by E.B. White and others are available in print.

Dictionary.com -- An online dictionary and thesaurus.

oed.com, The Oxford English Dictionary online. Requires a subscription, but is free for FSU students, faculty, and staff. For an off-campus connection, login through the libraries' "off-campus" connection.

Citation

Research and Documentation Online -- A resource from Diana Hacker and Bedford St. Martin's. Includes information and examples of APA, MLA, CBE, and Chicago styles.

Sources: Their Use and Acknowledgement, from Dartmouth College -- Lots of helpful information about citations. This site includes many examples in APA, MLA, the format for the journal Science, and footnotes in MLA.

Chicago/Turabian Documentation, from the University of Wisconsin -- Examples of footnotes and endnotes.

ACS Format, from CORE, the Chemistry/Ohiolink Resource Explorer at Youngstown State University -- A page on the American Chemical Society guidelines.

Citation Machine -- An online tool designed to help with MLA/APA styles.

Knight Cite -- An online tool designed to help with MLA/APA/CHICAGO styles.
